Presenting: Katy McKinin
Katy McKinin
works primarily in sculptural stoneware vessels motivated by organic forms. Raised in a quiet Midwest college town, Katy had a childhood filled with crafts—from block printing to weaving, but found that ceramics was the craft that followed her into adulthood.
Following a wonderful in-depth class at Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Colorado in 1996, she realized that clay was not a passing fancy and set up her first studio in Houston. A few years later she built her own studio in the rural Texas countryside, complete with a wood-fired kiln.
