Unfired clay installation, 2008
35”x 28”x 27”

Born in Italy, I live in Houston, U.S. and Amiens, France.
I like clay, and I feel that it responds to me.
I enjoy working with this material for its endless possibilities in terms of construction and surface finishes. I find in its fragility and strength a contradiction that mirrors human life and is deeply connected to myself. I work essentially with slabs, and my art relies mainly on the reaction of the clay: volumes, fissures and tearing due to the pressure of my fingers and the weight of the material. The piece’s memory appears printed on the surface, and I work with it.

Some of my installation works made with unfired clay are personal narratives. Others focus on social issues. For these, I enjoy working with the audience who is invited to materialize the artwork and become the Master of the creation and I take the place of the viewer.

My work in bronze, comes in opposition of my work in clay. Fighting with the idea of mortality, I reject the fragility of life as well as the fragility of the piece that at other moments fascinate me. I enjoy the feeling of being in control of the emotion and make it last for ever. At least that one.
