Emily Rensink at Monserrat College of Art

July Workshop - Handbuilding Bootcamp by Kathleen Hamlet @hamletkathleen55
July 12/14/19/21/26/28 - Tuesdays and Thursdays 6-8pm
Cost: $250 p/person inclusive of all materials and firing
Participants will learn the foundational techniques required to handbuild in clay - coiling, pinching, and slabs. Some surface decoration techniques will be featured as well, such as sgrafitto & mishima, carving and sprigging.
All work will be glazed and fired to completion by the studio and will be ready to collect two weeks after completion of the course.

Not-particularly-functional ceramics with Emily Sloan
On Sundays, June 12 - July 10, from 1-4 pm at the Center for Centering, Emily Sloan will lead a 6 week not-particularly-functional ceramics course where the idea/concept of sculptures that store, transport, or hold will be explored. This may be literal or not, practical or not, visible or not. The course will include learning about the work of various artists, a reading (or two), and hand building demonstrations. Potter's wheels are available as a tool and will be demonstrated if the group desires such. Cost is $340.
Next Level Ceramics with Nicolle LaMere
In this 6 weeks class (July 24-August 28) with Nicolle LaMere, students will be encouraged to expand their current abilities in ceramics. The instructor will meet with each student to discuss personal goals. Demonstrations utilizing the wheel will include advanced forms such as bottles, lidded jars, and teapots. Demonstrations for hand building techniques will include large-scale construction and template formulation for advanced slab construction. This course will run on Sundays from 1-4 pm, July 17 - August 28 at Center for Centering, 5005 Lyons Ave, Houston. Cost is $340.

The Fire Gallery
LeRoy Grubbs Announces the need for help filling the Geil Gas Kiln at the Fire Gallery in Sawyer Yards. This is a gas kiln for cone 10 reduction firing. Next firing is on the first Sunday of each month or sooner. Filling up and firing the kiln is a lot of fun. But there is nothing more exciting than opening the kiln. Donations requested for firing cost, please call to discuss further.
