OCTOBER 2020 NEWSLETTER

Dear ClayHouston members,

Hello, and BOO! Welcome to October!

I hope this letter finds you well as the weather starts to cool down a bit. This past month has been a busy one behind the scenes at ClayHouston. I want to send a HUGE thank you to the ClayHouston board members for the time, care and energy you’ve been putting in as we prepare for our Fall events and activities!

VIRTUAL MEMBER EXHIBITION: The deadline is fast approaching for our 2020 Virtual Member Exhibition: Form. Function. Decor. Bridging the Distance. ONLY 5 DAYS LEFT! Be sure to submit your work! The call will close on Monday, October 5thSubmit here

The ClayHouston & WiVLA 2020 CREATIVE VISION: Virtual Social Media Workshop is coming up and it’s FREE for ClayHouston members! Over the course of two Saturday Zoom sessions (Oct 17th & Oct 24th) our six social media experts will present overviews of Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, MailChimp and Zoom and also offer guidance with instructional Q&A Zoom sessions. DEADLINE to register is Oct 12th so be sure to sign up soon

We continue to look forward to our annual Bayou City Clay Crawl taking place on Sunday, December 6th from 10am - 5pm. We will have an incredible line-up of 30+ artists in 7 Heights area locations. Due to continuing precautions for COVID-19, the in-person portion of the clay crawl will take place outdoors and masks will be required.

In related news, we’re very excited to announce that ClayHouston will be partnering with Empty Bowls for this year’s Bayou City Clay Crawl! As many of you know, Empty Bowls was unable to hold their in-person event this past Spring due to COVID-19 but the Houston Food Bank needs our help now more than ever! Be on the lookout for more info as we get closer to the event.

I hope you’ll join us again this month for our Virtual Clay Talks on Thursday October 15. Remember, it’s the third Thursday of every month. Bring your clay questions, a piece for show-and-tell or just show up for the fun conversations!  Sign up

Save the Date: We will be having our General Meeting on Zoom: Wednesday, November 18, 2020 from 6pm - 7pm. Hope to see you there!

Call for volunteers: ClayHouston is working to spread the word about our events and activities and we need your help! We’re looking for ongoing assistance from someone who has experience with PR, marketing and social media. Please send us an email: info@clayhouston.org.

As always, I hope you all are staying safe and well and finding joy in clay.

Elizabeth Bentley in Texas State Fair

The Creative Arts Division of the 2020 State Fair of Texas looks a little different this year.  Entries ranging from quilts to photographs to jams/jellies to ceramics were delivered in person to the Fair and are displayed, along with ribbons awarded, in the Creative Arts Building.  But, this year there are no in-person visitors.  The State Fair hopes to post videos of all entries soon (https://www.facebook.com/statefairoftx).  Elizabeth Bentley entered five pieces.  Her pieces were awarded Blue (2), Red (2), and Yellow (1) Ribbons.
