April 2018 Newsletter

Greetings:

Spring is here with all the beautiful flowering trees and not so beautiful green film. I wish you the best in combatting the allergy season.

NCECA was a great success. Can you imagine over 5,000 people that play in the mud in one place? Demos, lectures, exhibits and lots to buy. I am sure all the new toys will improve my practice greatly. ClayHouston was well represented with many members in attendance. Mark your calendar; next year is Minneapolis, March 27 - 30, 2019.

Now for what’s happening on the local scene.

ClayTalks, our second Monday get together, has been put on hiatus for the next few months. We are restructuring and plan to have it back in the fall. We need your input. If you have any comments, suggestions or ideas please let me know. A special thanks to Vivian Pastor for hosting over the past years.

Sierra Estes, our Membership Chair, is working on a members only pop up sale. Keep an eye out for a Doodle Poll to get your input.

Betsy Evans, our Fundraising Chair, with the help of Nell Gottlieb, is busily working on a grant application to help us with the development of our 2nd Annual Studio Crawl in December.

Special thanks to Dody Carter for the Tai Chi lesson and to Denise Greenwood Loveless, Karen Fiscus and Sierra Estes for volunteering at Craft Day.

Symposium update: Bridget Bray, the Nancy C. Allen Curator & Director of Exhibitions at the Asia Society Texas Center, will be our Keynote Speaker; and Anna Walker, the Windgate Foundation Curatorial Fellow for Contemporary Craft at the Museum of Fine Arts (Houston), will be our Panel Moderator. And of course our demonstrating artists will be Jennifer Lind Datchuk and Adam Fields

Remember to check out the new items on the web site, “Area Art Shows” and the “Swap Shop”. Both are set up for you, our members, to advertise upcoming events and sell any excess equipment.

Happy Easter!
