Clay Creative and Studio Tour
Lotus Bermudez

Lotus will share insights into her latest TexAsian body of work, exploring how she weaves narrative storytelling into ceramics both abstractly and literally to offer fresh perspectives on multicultural identity in Houston.

This year, she is creating a large-scale mosaic mural at Smither Park, Asian Roots with Cowgirl Boots, incorporating ceramic shards contributed by TexAsian potters from across the state. The project is funded in part by the City of Houston and the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs through the Support for Artists and Creative Individuals grant.

You can find Lotus and her work throughout the year at events including the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft Spring Luncheon, Archway Gallery’s Empty Bowls Houston Invitational, the Blanco Lavender Festival, and the Texas Clay Festival.

During the event, Lotus will demonstrate versatile surface techniques for both thrown and hand-built forms, illustrating how handmade and found objects can be used to build rich personal narratives and expressive surfaces. She will also explore how alternative and atmospheric firing methods can further amplify storytelling and meaning in ceramic work.
