Dear << Test First Name >>,
We start the month of March congratulating our ClayHouston member Carole Smith. She was selected by the Houston Endowment to receive a 2026 Jones Artist Award.
We are so excited to have our first Clay Conversations with Carole Smith on March 19th from 6:00–8:00 PM at New Magnolia Brewing Co. As presented during our General Meeting this past January, Clay Conversations is a new meeting format for members that combines an informative conversation about ceramics and a social hour. In March, Carole will lead an informal discussion about being a working artist and running her own studio. The first hour will act as a casual happy hour, followed by a second hour of a loosely structured discussion with Carole, open to questions. Grab a drink and join us!
We still have a few sports for the exclusive guided tour to the exhibition The Uncanny In-Between led by Dr. Laura Augusta (Director and Chief Curator) and Katherine Veneman (Curator of Education) at the Blaffer Art Museum on March 7 from 11-12p with lunch to follow. The Uncanny in-Between exhibition was curated by Sso-Rha Kang. The exhibition shows the work of 15 Korean artists who navigate the complexities of bicultural identities.
Registration is open for our 8th Annual PopUp Market. It will be held at the Black Lab, St Thomas University, 4100 Montrose Blvd. This is a great opportunity for you to exhibit and sell your functional pottery, sculptures, and other ceramic artworks directly to the Houston community. Register here soon before all booths are taken!
If you are interested in getting more involved in ClayHouston activities, we are looking for a member to fulfill the position of Fundraising Chair. This position is primarily responsible for raising funds for ClayHouston, researching, writing, submitting, and coordinating grant applications, organizing fundraising events, and spearheading the Bayou City Clay Crawl. If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity please email us at info@clayhouston.org with the subject line: Fundraising Chair.
Keep an eye out for upcoming information about our 4th Annual ClayHouston Award for Texas BIPOC Artists. This award is dedicated to providing funding for ceramic artists in Texas who self-identify as black, indigenous, and/or people of color.
Thank you for your continuous support, as always.
Warm regards,
Mara Cavalcanti
ClayHouston President
